Australia's Rohan Dennis finished the Tour of Switzerland the way he started it, with a stage win, taking out the final time trial as Slovenia's Simon Spilak took the overall victory.

Dennis, who won stage one, romped home in the stage nine time trial to take the stage by 29 seconds for BMC Racing, from teammate and local hope Stefan Kueng.

Dennis stopped the clock in 36:30 minutes on the 28.6 kilometre time trial.

Spilak went into the final stage leading the general classification by 52 seconds over BMC's Damiano Caruso.

The Slovenian came home in a solid fifth place on the stage, 51 seconds adrift, more than enough to keep the yellow jersey and win the Tour for the second time in his career.
