Rolex watches may have been bugged: MP

Former defence minister Joel Fitzgibbon says Rolex watches given to former prime minister Tony Abbott and several ministers may have been bugged.

Rolex watches given to former prime minister Tony Abbott and several ministers by a Chinese businessman may have been bugged, Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon believes.

Mr Fitzgibbon says he had all gifts tested by the Defence Signals Directorate when he was defence minister and anyone in a senior position should do the same in the interests of national security.

The watches were returned but the offices of former ministers Stuart Robert and Ian Macfarlane confirmed the watches were not tested, Fairfax Media reports.
