The 85-year-old is currently behind bars at Stafford Prison, after he was convicted in July 2014 of 12 counts of indecent assault against four girls between 1968 and 1986.
The youngest of his victims was eight years old at the time of the assault.
SBS Europe Correspondent Brett Mason reports on the latest developments:
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement that it had carefully considered the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police Service as part of Operation Yewtree.
“Having completed our review in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Harris to be charged with seven counts of indecent assault."
“The alleged offences date from 1971 to 2004 and relate to seven complainants aged between 12 and 27 at the time of the alleged offending.”
Detectives from Scotland Yard confirmed to SBS News that Mr Harris has been charged with:
1. Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 between 10 and 11 July 1971
2. Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 between 1 January 1977 and 31 December 1977
3. Indecent assault on a woman aged 16 or over on 17 September 1977
4. Indecent assault on a woman aged 16 or over between 1 June 1978 and 31 July 1978

Rolf Harris will be taken from his prison cell to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 17 March 2016.
Lawyers representing the alleged victims welcomed today’s announcement by British prosecutors, but declined to comment further.
Detectives from Scotland Yard have continued to investigate Mr Harris since his conviction in 2014, interviewing him several times in prison.
Last March, the Queen stripped Harris - who once painted the Monarch's portrait - of a royal honour.

Rolf Harris song mocks victims
Her Majesty had appointed Harris a Commander of the Order of the British Empire one year after the entertainer painted her portrait to mark her 80th birthday.
Harris, who is due to be released from prison in May 2017, was recently criticised after it was revealed he had penned so-called “vile” revenge songs about his victims while serving his sentence.
The handwritten lyrics to one song, “Can't Keep that Dingo Down”, described his victims as ‘woodworms’ who have ‘climbed up out of the woodwork from 40 years ago’.
Prison guards also reportedly seized two handmade didgeridoos from his prison cell.
