Thousands of years after the Roman Empire was founded, Australians are being given the chance to see treasures from the ancient civilisation up close.
A massive marble statue of a Roman magistrate is among items the British Museum has brought down under as part of its Rome: City and Empire exhibit at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra.
Visitors can also catch a glimpse of a fragment of gold wall painting from Emperor Nero's Golden House.
A frieze - or a long, narrow sculpture used in architecture - with a rare depiction of female gladiators is also among more than 200 objects from the 9th century BC to the 6th century CE.
British Museum British Museum Dr Hartwig Fischer said the exhibit is a rare opportunity to experience Roman masterpieces, with Canberra the exhibit's only Australian stop.
The exhibit will run from September 21 to February 3, 2019.
