Romania captain Mihai Macovei has been cited for a dangerous tackle in the 17-15 win against Canada in the Rugby World Cup.

Macovei's two tries and driving runs from the back of the scrum helped Romania overturn a 15-0 deficit on Tuesday.

The win has given the Oaks a chance to finish in third place in Pool D and qualify directly for the 2019 World Cup, providing it beats Italy on Sunday in Exeter.

Losing Macovei would be a big blow for Romania.

His hearing was set for late Thursday in London, and was to be heard by independent judicial officer Simon Thomas of Wales.
