Playing his well-known character Ron Burgandy, US comedian Will Ferrell has delivered a message to the Australian public ahead of Saturday’s federal election.

The famous anchorman delivered the message from behind his GNN news desk.

"While the battle of the titans has come to an end, we’ll never forget the mental fisticuffs in which Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard were engaged," he said.

"We laughed, we cried, we became distracted by Tony Abbott’s banana hammock...I certainly did... and forgot a Labor Party ever existed.

"Good times Australia."
