Rondo buzzer beater sees off rival Celtics

The latest instalment in the NBA's oldest rivalry went down to the wire in Boston with the Lakers coming out 129-128 winners over the Celtics.

Former Boston guard Rajon Rondo hit a 20-foot jumper as time expired to lift the Los Angeles Lakers to a 129-128 NBA win road over the Celtics on Thursday night.

LeBron James put up a triple-double made up of 28 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Kyle Kuzma added 25 points and Rondo had 17 points and 10 assists to help the Lakers bounce back after a 42-point hammering at Indiana on Tuesday.

Rondo was in the right place at the right time for the final shot against the team he played with for eight years and won an NBA title with in 2008.

Kyrie Irving led Boston with 24 points and eight assists as the Celtics had their five-game winning streak snapped.

Pascal Siakam scored a career-high 33 points, Fred VanVleet added a career-best 30 and Toronto, minus All-Star Kawhi Leonard who was rested, rallied from 17 points down in the first half to beat the Hawks 119-101 in Atlanta.

Russell Westbrook had his eighth straight triple-double as Oklahoma City rolled past Memphis 117-95.

Westbrook finished with 15 points, 15 assists and 13 rebounds for the longest triple-double streak of his career, and is one short of Wilt Chamberlain's NBA record of nine straight set in 1968.

Paul George scored 27 points and Jerami Grant added 20 for the Thunder, which has won nine of 10, while Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 27 points for the Grizzlies.

CJ McCollum's 30 points and nine rebounds led Portland to a 127-118 triumph over San Antonio.

Damian Lillard chimed in with 24 points for the Trailblazers and Jusuf Nurkic 22.

DeMar DeRozan had 35 and Rudy Gay 25 points for the Spurs while Aussie Patty Mills chipped in with seven points and eight assists.

Bojan Bogdanovic scored 29 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Indiana to a 116-92 home court win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Myles Turner had 17 points and six blocked shots, while Thaddeus Young and Darren Collison each scored 14 points for the Pacers, who won their fourth straight.

Terrence Ross scored 32 points, which included six 3-pointers and 13-of-23 shots overall, to help the Magic beat Minnesota 122-112 in Orlando.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who lost for the fifth time in six games.
