A policewoman has been shot dead on her first day of duty in Virginia, soon after her colleagues had posted a Twitter post telling her to "be safe!"
Ashley Guindon was shot, along with two other officers at a home they were called to over a domestic dispute in Lake Ridge, about 25km southwest of Washington, DC, on Saturday.
Guindon later died from her wounds, the Prince William County police posted on their Twitter and Facebook pages.
It had said in a Twitter post on Friday that Guindon would be working her first shifts this weekend after having been sworn in, adding "Be safe!"
A suspect was in custody but was not identified.
The department gave no details on the nature of the incident or the condition of the two other injured officers.
