North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs have made some tough selection calls ahead of their historic Good Friday AFL clash.

North Melbourne couldn't find a spot for a fit-again Majak Daw in their AFL side for the historic Good Friday clash with the Western Bulldogs.

Daw was a late withdrawal from last week's loss to Greater Western Sydney after suffering a concussion in a training mishap but will play in the VFL after being passed fit.

The Roos regained Scott Thompson from suspension and young gun Jy Simpkin from a corked thigh for the Etihad Stadium encounter.

Coach Brad Scott dropped Sam Durdin and Ryan Clarke as he tries to find the Roos' first win of the season.

The Bulldogs have named Liam Picken but he must still prove he is over the concussion he suffered in a nasty knock against Fremantle.

"We'll test him ... (but) even when players have passed that test there's no guarantee that they'll be back to their best straight away," coach Luke Beveridge said.

"As long as he gets the clearance from our doctors, he'll definitely play."

Beveridge reacted to the upset loss to the Dockers by dropping premiership duo Caleb Daniel and Shane Biggs, replacing them with Clay Smith and Josh Dunkley.

GWS recalled star full-forward Jonathon Patton for their highly-anticipated clash with Port Adelaide in Canberra.

The No.1 selection at the 2011 draft returns with Matthew Kennedy to replace injured veterans Ryan Griffen (ankle) and Steve Johnson (knee).

Patton missed the past two games with a groin injury but returns for Saturday's clash that pits the fourth-placed Power against the fifth-placed Giants.

Port added Matt White and Jasper Pittard for the suspended Paddy Ryder and dropped Brett Eddy.

As expected, Melbourne brought in ruckman Jake Spencer to replace Max Gawn, who will be sidelined for up to three months after undergoing hamstring surgery.

Sam Frost and Tommy Bugg are also in for Saturday's clash with Fremantle at the MCG, with the Dockers going with the same 22 that shocked the Dogs.

Ladder leaders Adelaide host Essendon at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, the Crows replacing Mitch McGovern (hamstring) with former Blue Troy Menzel.

Essendon made two unforced changes, adding Josh Green and Conor McKenna at the expense of Heath Hocking and Martin Gleeson.

Zac Fisher will be Carlton's fifth AFL debutant this season when the Blues host Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Charlie Curnow is also in, with the Suns replacing injured backman Rory Thompson (quad) with Jack Leslie.

Injury-plagued Collingwood star Jamie Elliott is set to play his first game since round 23 of the 2015 season after being named in an extended squad for Sunday's match against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Jarryd Blair and former Melbourne defender Lynden Dunn have also been included, with the Saints adding David Armitage, Koby Stevens and potential debutant Ben Long to their squad.

Brisbane host Richmond in Sunday's other clash, the Tigers adding Anthony Miles, Connor Menadue and Oleg Markov to the side that remains undefeated after three rounds.

Potential debutant Cedric Cox and former Roo Ryan Bastinac were among four inclusions for the Lions.

Hawthorn lost big name recruit Jaeger O'Meara to a knee injury for their Easter Monday clash with Geelong, while Teia Miles was omitted.

The Cats dropped Lincoln McCarthy for the big game, with Nakia Cockatoo and Rhys Stanley among the inclusions.
