North Melbourne veteran Andrew Swallow's AFL career is at the crossroads once more after the former skipper was dropped for a second time this season.

The 29-year-old was axed ahead of the Kangaroos' round six match against Gold Coast and has been replaced by Trent Dumont for Sunday's round 10 clash with Carlton.

Swallow is an emergency for the Etihad Stadium encounter, along with Braydon Preuss and Jed Anderson.

The Blues have recalled Harrison Macreadie and Liam Sumner to replace Dale Thomas (concussion) and Sam Rowe (knee).

Collingwood host Brisbane at the MCG in Sunday's early game and the Magpies have named midfielder Matt Scharenberg for his first game since round 23 of the 2015 season.

Scharenberg, who has undergone two knee reconstructions, comes in with Tim Broomhead, while Henry Schade (omitted) and James Aish (cheekbone) are out of the side that defeated Hawthorn.

Lions coach Chris Fagan has made five changes as he attempts to snap an eight-game losing run.

Tom Cutler, Daniel McStay, Ryan Bastinac, Rhys Mathieson and Archie Smith are the inclusions.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson has delivered on his promise to make sweeping changes to the team humbled by Essendon last week.

Jack Redden, Fraser McInnes, Kurt Mutimer and Tom Barrass were all dropped, while Sharrod Wellingham is out with an ankle injury.

Will Schofield, Josh Hill, Drew Petrie, Lewis Jetta and Jackson Nelson were included in the side to face Greater Western Sydney at Domain Stadium on Sunday.

The second-placed Giants have lost Steve Johnson (knee) and Rory Lobb (groin) to injury and replaced them with Harrison Himmelberg and Matthew Kennedy.
