There was plenty to get excited about for Melbourne fans after the Demons' 73-point AFL romp over the Suns on the Gold Coast.
But it seems someone forgot to tell Melbourne coach Paul Roos.
Inspired by ruckman Max Gawn, the Demons piled on 16 second-half goals to six to cruise to a 26.16 (160) to 14.3 (87) victory at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
It was the most points the Gold Coast had conceded at home.
And Melbourne notched 100 points for the fourth time this season.
To put that in perspective, the Demons did not reach triple figures in a game last season until the final round.
Remarkably Melbourne enter round eight with a percentage over 100 for the first time since 2011.
Yet Roos did his best to keep a lid on their historic win that kept the Demons (4-3 record) on the cusp of the top eight.
Roos said there was still a huge gap between Melbourne at their best and worst as indicated by last round's 39-point loss to St Kilda.
"We're certainly a team who's best is really really good but we still haven't got a great margin for error," he said.
"We had 17 or 18 good players (against the Suns) - if we get that we're going to be a good team.
"Last week I think we had five or six, so there's still an understanding from our group that they all have to come and play well and if they do that we generally get a positive result."
Gawn dominated from the outset to finish with 17 touches, 46 hitouts and two goals.
It ensured Nathan Jones (33 touches, two goals) and Jack Viney (24, two goals) cut loose to spark a remarkable nine majors to three third term that turned the match on its ear.
"When we get good contributions from leaders and all the way down, we're a good team," Roos said.
The ninth placed Demons next host the red hot Western Bulldogs at the MCG on May 15.
