The Sydney Roosters have suffered a second key injury setback, with halfback Mitchell Pearce ruled out by injury for their NRL match on Sunday against the Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium.

According to Fairfax Media, Pearce strained a calf at training.

The loss of the playmaker might provide Jackson Hastings with a reprieve after he had been named to play for Wyong in the NSW Cup for a second straight week, although Connor Watson is already on the bench.

Hastings and Jayden Nikorima were the Roosters' halves for most of the eight weeks Pearce was suspended at the start of the season, but both had since fallen out of favour with the struggling Roosters.

Earlier on Friday, in a blow for the Roosters and NSW State of Origin coach Laurie Daley, it was revealed second-rower Boyd Cordner would be out for up to six weeks with a foot injury.
