Roosters recruit in French World Cup squad

Sydney Roosters recruit Remi Casty, who will join the NRL premiers in 2014, has been named in France's squad for the upcoming rugby league World Cup.

Sydney Roosters recruit Remi Casty will headline a French squad facing a tough ask to progress past the group stages of the rugby league World Cup.

Casty, a utility forward who will join the Roosters in 2014 having played under premiership-winning coach Trent Robinson at Le Catalans, will be keen to make an early impression against many players he will soon be going up against on a weekly basis.

France have been drawn in the same group as defending champions New Zealand, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

The top three nations from the pool will progress to the quarter-finals, with France likely to battle it out with PNG for third place behind the Kiwis and Samoa.

North Queensland fullback Clint Greenshields was also named in the squad, having qualified for France via residency rules when playing for Catalans ahead of the 2009 Four Nations tournament.

In all there are 16 Catalans players in the squad.

Squad: Jean-Philippe Baile, William Barthau, Thomas Bosc, Damien Cardace, Remi Casty, Vincent Duport, Olivier Elima, Morgan Escare, Jamal Fakir, Benjamin Garcia, Kevin Larroyer, Antoni Maria, Gregory Mounis, Eloi Pelissier, Mickael Simon, Frederic Vaccari, Andrew Bentley, Kane Bentley, Younes Khattabi, Cyril Stacul, Sebastien Raguin, Tony Gigot, Clint Greenshields, Theo Fages.
