Roosters sweating on Napa's fitness

The Sydney Roosters could be without forward Dylan Napa for up to six weeks of NRL matches if expectations he suffered a high ankle sprain are correct.

The Sydney Roosters will sweat on the fitness of prop Dylan Napa after he suffered a suspected ankle syndesmosis injury.

Napa was forced to walk himself off the field in the 18th minute of the Roosters' 18-12 loss to Manly at Allianz Stadium on Friday night and did not return.

Adding insult to injury, he had to walk himself off the field after officials were unable to get the medicab through a gate and onto the pitch to take him off.

Napa left the ground in a moon boot, and is expected to undergo scans over the weekend.

"I'm not sure how bad," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

"It's not the end of the world but it's not good either."

The high ankle sprain generally rules players out for four to six weeks, meaning it is unlikely to stop Napa's push for a maiden Queensland State of Origin jersey.

The series begins in Brisbane on May 31.

Meanwhile, Napa's absence at the Roosters could be countered by Kane Evans' likely return from a calf injury.

Napa's fellow prop was named on an extended bench for the Roosters earlier in the week, but remained on the sideline on Friday night.

Instead, Robinson was forced to use bench forward Isaac Liu for extended minutes in the tense forwards battle, while utility Connor Watson was also used in the middle.

"Isaac Liu had to do quite a good job to finish that first half, especially at the speed, then run out in the second half like he did," Robinson said.

"Losing a player like Dylan in one of those sort of tight battles, the go-forward battles.

"We just had to use Connor a bit differently. Connor did a good job there."
