Nico Rosberg is looking to repeat his win of last year at Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix as he moves closer to wrapping up the Formula One title.
The Mercedes driver could be crowned champion if he wins at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and teammate and defending champion Lewis Hamilton is out of the points.
Rosberg says he is continuing his approach of taking it race by race.
He can afford to finish second to Hamilton in all the remaining races, with Brazil and Abu Dhabi following next month, and still win the title.
Even if Hamilton wins the three remaining races, two second places and a third-place finish would suffice for the German,
"My goal is to try and win there just as it has been at every race," he said of his approach in Mexico City.
"Of course, to be in a championship battle at the end of the year is awesome and I'm excited about that. But my approach is to keep it simple.
"There are many things that can happen during a race weekend which are out of your control, so it's best to just block all that out and focus on the job at hand. That's what's worked best for me and how I feel at my strongest."
Rosberg has 331 points in the standings, with Hamilton on 305 and Australia's Daniel Ricciardo a distant third on 227.
Hamilton has been buoyed by victory at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas last Sunday and hopes reliability issues which have affected his season are over.
"I've never been one to give up and I don't plan on starting now," he said.
"There are still plenty of points available and anything is possible."
