Rossair crash investigation continues

Crash scene investigators are preparing to spend a second full day at the scene of the Rossair crash in the South Australian Riverland.

Air crash investigators will spend a second full day at the scene of a plane crash in the South Australian Riverland that claimed the lives of three experienced aviators.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau team will continue to laser map the site on Friday as their investigation gathers pace.

They are trying to determine what brought the Rossair Cessna Conquest down on Tuesday afternoon, soon after it took off from the Renmark Airport.

The crash killed the company's chief pilot Martin Scott, 48, fellow pilot Paul Daw, 65 and Civil Aviation Safety Authority inspector Stephen Guerin, 56.

ATSB chief commissioner Greg Hood says the plane had only been in the air for about 60 to 90 seconds before it plunged to the ground.

He says the concentrated nature of the wreckage suggests it came down steeply.

Mr Hood says any witnesses to the crash or anyone who saw the plane in flight after its take-off on Tuesday afternoon are asked to come forward.

The ATSB plans to issue a preliminary report within 30 days and a final report within 12 months.

Rossair has grounded its operations and will take advice from CASA on when it can resume.
