Route 66 gets stretch of 'Singing road' that plays music to motorists

Drivers can now get a few more kicks on Route 66 with a stretch of road in New Mexico playing a tune as they (safely) drive by.

It's the newest creative strategy to keep drivers from speeding - a rumble strip that plays "America the Beautiful" as you drive over it.

You can't hear it if you go too fast or too slow - only if you travel at the speed limits.

When brand new signs went up alerting drivers, many didn't know what they meant.

"I noticed it's a rumble strip and so I drove over it and it played a tune - and I couldn't stop laughing," motorist Mary Kay Friedline said.

There are reportedly only a handful of these singing roads on the planet. This one was created free by a film production company and it's going to be part of a national TV show.
