South Australian police investigating the Kapunda triple murder are to search the contents of a rubbish truck on Friday.

Detectives went to Clare, north of the murder scene, on Thursday and searched a rubbish dump in their hunt for clues on who killed Andrew and Rose Rowe and their 16-year-old daughter Chantelle.

A spokesman said police would remain in the area on Friday and search the contents of a rubbish truck.

"The rubbish was collected from the Kapunda area yesterday and will be raked through some time this morning," the spokesman said.

"The search is just another aspect of the inquiry."

All three victims suffered multiple stab wounds. Their bodies were found in their rented Harriet Street home on Monday.

A trail of blood led away from the house and police said it was possible the killer had been injured in the attack.

They called for doctors and other health workers to report anyone seeking treatment.

Kylie Duffield, a niece of Andrew Rowe, says she's baffled by the murders.

"I think everyone who knows them would say that they were happy, they were a normal family," she told reporters.
