A man who allegedly abused people and threw meat and eggs while the prime minister of Samoa was speaking at a Brisbane church hall has been charged by police.

The 41-year-old is accused of interrupting a meeting at St Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Parish, in Marsden, on November 14, where he yelled abuse and threw food before fleeing.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was speaking about new flights linking Brisbane and Samoa's capital, Apia, a spokesman for the Samoan government says.

"He was there to launch the inaugural first flight," the spokesman said.

The prime minister's safety was never threatened, he said.
