Rudd offers climate advice to PM

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd has offered advice to Malcolm Turnbull ahead of an international climate summit in Paris.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has received advice from Kevin Rudd ahead of climate change talks in Paris.

Mr Rudd famously faced opposition from the Chinese delegation at the Copenhagen conference, but he believes they've undergone a 180 degree shift since then and he is hopeful action will be taken in Paris.

He was coy about the nature of the advice, and told ABC TV he is unsure what role the PM will take at the talks, warning Mr Turnbull to be wary of "nut-jobs from the lunar right" within his party.

Meanwhile, Mr Rudd has taken aim at Cardinal George Pell, lambasting him for comments he made on climate change.

"When you have one of the senior princes of the church ... saying to the Pope, `You don't know what you're talking about on climate change,' I think there's a responsibility for all of us to engage," he told the ABC.
