Russian hiker missing on Indon volcano

More than 50 people are searching for an injured Russian hiker who is missing on Indonesia's most active volcano.

A Russian hiker is missing on Indonesia's most active volcano.

Ebrehnin Yevgeny, 26, began climbing Mount Merapi near the central Java city of Yogyakarta on Saturday, said Danang Samsu chief of the local rescue agency on Wednesday.

He sent a mobile text message to his girlfriend saying he was lost on Sunday. On Monday, he sent another saying he was somewhere near a river and was injured, Samsu said.

More than 50 people, including members of the military, are involved in the search for the tourist.

"We have not been able to locate his whereabouts because the terrain is difficult," he said.

The 2,930-metre Merapi last erupted in 2010, killing more than 350 people and displacing 200,000 others.
