In a case that's prompted protests that racism is alive and well in South Africa, four white former students have pleaded guilty to charges surrounding a video they made showing black university employees being humiliated.

The men have pleaded guilty to charges of illegally and deliberately injuring another person's dignity.

The video shows the employees being forced to consume food and drinks that appear to be tainted with urine, although the students later described it as a harmless liquid.

The employees included four middle-aged women and one man.

Two of the students have apologised, saying they had been crucified as racists and regretted making the film.
