An Adelaide baby has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition with meningococcal disease.

A 16-month-old baby is in a critical condition after being diagnosed with meningococcal disease.

The toddler has been admitted to hospital in Adelaide with health authorities providing precautionary antibiotics to a number of people who had contact with the infant.

The case is the 21st reported in South Australia so far this year compared to 27 at the same time last year, SA Health says.
