An emergency warning has been issued for residents near the Bangor bushfire in the South Australia's Southern Flinders Range.

The CFS issued the warning late on Tuesday afternoon, saying a serious bushfire was burning out of control near Horrocks Highway, north of Laura and south of Wirrabara.

The Bangor fire is travelling east towards Stone Hut.

The uncontrolled fire is burning in scrub and is a risk to lives and homes.

It broke containment lines on Tuesday, leading to firefighters carrying out a 7km backburn overnight on the eastern flank of the fire to the west of Laura.

The blaze, which has been burning for four weeks, has burnt more than 10,000 hectares since Saturday.

More than 33,000 hectares of scrub has been burnt.

The CFS on Tuesday afternoon also issued a watch-and-act alert for a bushfire at Mount Damper in the Upper Eyre Peninsula near Mount Damper and Tarragon Tanks Roads.

The uncontrolled fire in stubble is heading west towards Mount Damper Road and may threaten people's safety.

Total fire bans have been declared for Wednesday for the districts of Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula and Lower South East.
