SA bowlers on top as WA slump in Shield

Western Australia are 8-194 at tea on day one against South Australia in the Sheffield Shield after Chadd Sayers and Kane Richardson tore through the top-order.

A superb display of line and length bowling from South Australia has left Western Australia reeling at 8-194 at tea on day one of their Sheffield Shield meeting at Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg.

WA, who were 5-91 at lunch, fared only marginally better during the middle session in the face of some relentless precision bowling from the SA attack.

Kane Richardson profited from the overcast conditions to be the chief destroyer with 4-53.

He was ably supported by fellow opening bowler Chadd Sayers (3-65) who claimed three of the first five wickets to fall.

Only new Australian Twenty20 squad member Michael Klinger (34), middle-order batsman Ashton Turner (29) and debutant wicketkeeper Josh Inglis (43 not out) offered any significant resistance.

The Redbacks' decision to send their opponents in quickly paid off, with WA losing four wickets in the opening hour.
