A South Australian man accused of being on the run with his baby daughter is due to appear in court charged with assaulting the child's grandmother.

Benjamin Koch, 38, handed himself in at Mount Gambier Police Station on Sunday night after a manhunt that began early in the morning.

Police said the 10-month-old baby was safe and well.
