SA govt extends patient record contract

Patient records in South Australia will continue to be stored at an off-site facility, after the government extended the provider's contract for three years.

The South Australian government has approved a three-year extension for the off-site storage of patient records, following delays in the rollout of the state's troubled electronic record system.

The $10.9 million extension will mean more than two million paper patient records will continue to be stored at four off-site facilities and delivered to hospitals as required, Health Minister Stephen Wade said.

"The design of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) meant the floors of the $2.4 billion hospital could not withstand the weight of the paper," Mr Wade said on Tuesday.
