The final phase in closing down Adelaide's Repatriation General Hospital will begin next week.
Health Minister Peter Malinauskas says 675 staff, 175 patients and 200 volunteers will begin the move to the Flinders Medical Centre and the Noarlunga Hospital on Tuesday.
The hospital's closure has been a controversial part of the state government's health reforms, with the opposition and a number of community groups critical of the decision.
The move also follows the successful transition of about 300 patients from the old Royal Adelaide Hospital to the new Royal Adelaide earlier this year.
"Our clinical teams in the south have been working towards these moves for a long time, and we are now ready to transfer patients," Mr Malinauskas.
"While the Repat move will be different in nature to the Royal Adelaide Hospital move, what will be the same is the support and assistance provided across the health system to ensure the moves are completed safely."
The transfer involves patients undergoing rehabilitation, palliative care and geriatric evaluation, along with veterans and others receiving mental health treatment.
Outpatient services will also be relocated to other hospitals and health centres.
