South Australia will look to Asia for guidance in attracting business in the space industry, Space Industries Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith says.
Creating new partnerships with key Japanese and Korean space players, including the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency, will be high on the agenda as he tours the two countries this week.
The federal government's commitment to establishing a national space agency means SA is well placed to attract more business in the lucrative space industry, Mr Hamilton-Smith says.
"Space is growing at more than three times the world annual GDP - there is so much growth potential here in South Australia," he said.
The state is home to 60 space-related companies and the government wants to attract more as SA tries to move away from an economy reliant on traditional manufacturing.
SA established its own space centre in September to help foster innovation in the sector and create high-tech jobs.
Industry experts believe the worldwide space industry is worth about $420 billion annually.
