A pedestrian in his 70s has died after being hit by a car in Adelaide's west.

The man was walking on the corner of Mortimer Street and South Road at Kurralta Park last week when he was struck on the slip lane.

He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious head injuries and died on Thursday night, police say.

His death has taken the state's road toll to 49 compared to 46 at the same time last year.
