South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill will open the upgraded Loxton Research Centre in the South Australian Riverland, where $7.5 million has been spent to boost agricultural research and biosecurity work.

The centre was first opened in 1960 as a regional hub for agricultural and biosecurity services and since then has played a key role in a range of irrigation and horticultural developments.

Mr Weatherill is also expected to outline other agricultural research initiatives during his time in the Riverland on Friday.
