SA shock Victoria, make one-day cup final

South Australian have set up a domestic one-day cup final with Western Australia after a dominant 176-run win over Victoria led by a Jake Weatherald century.

A Jake Weatherald century and some brutal blows from Tom Cooper helped South Australia secure a place in the one-day cup final with a dominant 176-run over Victoria.

After being sent in to bat in Thursday's elimination clash, SA reached 5-339 at Hobart's Bellerive Oval in a rain-reduced 48-over innings.

Under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, Victoria needed 345 off 48 overs but were never in the hunt.

Back in Australia after touring India, big guns Aaron Finch (zero) and Glenn Maxwell (12) fell cheaply as Victoria were toppled for 168. SA will now meet Western Australia in Saturday's final at the same ground.

The Redbacks are the only team to have beaten WA, who are likely to be boosted by Australia seamers Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff.

SA's win was set up by Weatherald, who was dropped at slip early en route to 116 (121 balls).

"It was a little tough but we got through it with a bit of luck," he said.

"One you get in on that wicket it's beautiful, nice and quick."

Weatherald shared a 215-run opening stand with Alex Carey, who fell agonisingly short of a maiden one-day century when he edged paceman Scott Boland behind for 92.

Cooper then freed the arms late, smashing a half century off 22 balls - the equal third-fastest in domestic one-day history - before holing out for 59.

"He's been doing it all tournament and it comes out when we need it" Weatherald said.

Victoria collapsed to 5-85 in reply. Daniel Worrall picked up two wickets in a tight opening spell and then ran through the tail to finish with career-best figures of 5-62.

Finch was bowled by Worrall for a first-ball duck, while Maxwell fell lbw to Adam Zampa for a jittery 12 off 24 balls.
