A commemorative service will be held to celebrate the life of South Australian disability advocate, writer and actor Quentin Kenihan, who died on October 7.

The 43-year-old's "remarkable life" will be honoured at the service at Adelaide Town Hall on October 28, Premier Steven Marshall said on Wednesday.

The state government has also committed funds to a special playground in his honour.

"Quentin was one of South Australia's favourite sons," Mr Marshall said on Wednesday.

"Despite his well-documented health challenges, he lived a remarkable life and will be remembered for his appearances on radio, on TV, in film, and as a fixture around the streets of Adelaide.

"His advocacy for an inclusive playground in the CBD will see his vision delivered, with the state government and city of Adelaide working to progress this project which will ensure Quentin's memory lives on."

Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese said Kenihan had a "huge impact on people in this city, South Australia and right across the world".

"I knew Quentin for 25 years and am sure that this celebration will appropriately reflect upon his passion, determination and love of the community he sought to serve as a councillor," Mr Haese said.

Not long before his death, Kenihan had nominated for a seat on the council and his name will remain on the ballot paper for the November poll.
