A South Australian toddler has died from a suspected case of meningococcal disease.

SA Health says the 18-month-old died at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide on Sunday afternoon.

The authority will run tests on Monday to confirm if meningococcal - a form of meningitis with flu-like symptoms - was responsible for the death.
