A South Australian woman has died after contracting a strain of meningococcal disease.

A 46-year-old South Australian woman has died from meningococcal disease.

The woman contracted the W strain of the disease and died on Sunday, SA Health confirmed on Wednesday.

There have been 27 cases of meningococcal disease in South Australia so far this year compared to 20 at the same time last year.
