SA wrap up 10-wicket Shield win over WA

South Australia have thrashed Western Australia by 10 wickets early on the final day of their Sheffield Shield match in Perth.

South Australia have completed a dominant batting display to claim a 10-wicket Sheffield Shield win over Western Australia early on Friday's fourth day in Perth.The Redbacks required only a further 37 runs to claim victory when play resumed on the final day and took another 15.3 patient overs to get them.They finished on 0-69, accumulated carefully from 23.3 overs, with Kelvin Smith unbeaten on 29 and Jake Weatherald not out 37. Smith gave the Warriors their only chance, when he was dropped by Shaun Marsh at slip from the bowling of Adam Voges when the score was on 55.South Australia's first innings of 9(dec)-505 set up the victory, having handled the conditions of the day-night fixture much better than the Warriors' batsmen.The 198-run partnership between Tom Cooper (138) and Alex Carey (79) under the WACA lights was critical to the outcome of the match. Earlier, Callum Ferguson (101) and Travis Head (66) laid the foundations.South Australia resumed their second innings on day four at 0-32. Smith (16no) and Weatherald (15no) had faced eight overs on Thursday night under lights.The Warriors set the Redbacks their modest target of 69 after Shaun Marsh's 110 allowed them to reach 302, following their 9(dec)-271 on the opening day, with the Test batsman also scoring 73.New Australian Test squad member Joe Mennie clearly impressed national selectors in that innings. Mennie was able to get through the defences of Cameron Bancroft (bowled for 20) and Voges (lbw for 20) and had Hilton Cartwright caught behind by Alex Carey for 17.He finished with the impressive figures of 3-56 and is in line to make his Test debut when Australia host South Africa from Thursday in the series opener in Perth.Chadd Sayers did the damage in WA's second innings with 4-57, which included 3-0 in three overs, with the Warriors slumping from 1-97 to 4-107 after the tea break on the third day.Sayers was on a hat-trick after dismissing Test allrounder Mitch Marsh and Voges, both without scoring, in consecutive balls.Both teams will be in action again from next Friday, without their Test players. The Warriors take on NSW in Sydney, while the Redbacks host Tasmania.
