South Africa's high commissioner to Australia has been charged with corruption, a spokesman for the country's National Prosecuting Authority says.
Spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said Sibusiso Ndebele appeared in a Durban court on Tuesday and was released on $US655 ($A904) bail.
Mfaku said the charges stem from Ndebele's time as South Africa's transport minister from 2009 to 2012.
The case was postponed until July 20 when Ndebele will appear in court with another former high ranking transport official and others implicated in the investigation.
A spokesman for South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Clayson Monyela, said Ndebele will remain high commissioner to Australia while the case continues.
Mfaku said three companies have also been indicted on corruption charges.
