Three men will be sentenced today for allegedly steering a bulk carrier into restricted waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
The men were charged last weekend with breaching the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act.
Townsville Magistrates Court heard on Thursday the bulk carrier entered the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park on April 4 via an unidentified shipping route at Flinders Passage, off the north Queensland coast.
Prosecutors have called for the senior crewmen of the ship to face fines of $75,000 each.
They have pleaded guilty and will face sentencing in Townsville Magistrates Court on Friday.
