St Kilda will delay a decision on injured captain Nick Riewoldt playing in this Sunday's AFL clash with Carlton.

Riewoldt has been cleared of any structural damage to his knee following a collision in the opening minute of Sunday's heavy loss to Adelaide.

The 33-year-old played out the game but wasn't moving easily.

Saints general manager of football performance Jamie Cox said Riewoldt was only a 50:50 chance of playing against the in-form Blues and a decision would be made later in the week.

"Nick had a scan and he's come up pretty well from that," Cox said.

"Nick's knees have been well publicised (over his career), so we wont know how Nick's travelling until later in the week."

The injury to the skipper capped a horror weekend for the Saints.

Paddy McCartin and Sean Dempster are unavailable until after the bye while promising defender Hugh Goddard's season is over after rupturing his Achilles.

McCartin was concussed during the Crows match and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The club said he was recovering well but wouldn't face the Blues, especially as it was his second concussion of the year.

Dempster had surgery on Tuesday on his right knee after pulling up sore in the third quarter against Adelaide and will miss four weeks.

Injury-prone midfielder Nathan Freeman also hurt his hamstring at training last week.
