Salim Mehajer is a free man again after telling a court he'd been so confused by his many bail obligations that he didn't realise he wasn't allowed to contact certain witnesses.

The disgraced Sydney businessman was arrested on Monday, just two weeks after being released from prison, after he contacted a witness in one of his ongoing cases via email.

But his latest spell behind bars was brief, with magistrate Alison Viney in Burwood Local Court releasing him back into the community on Tuesday afternoon.

The 32-year-old was arrested about 2.30pm on Monday at his Lidcombe home and remanded in custody after contacting the witness.

In applying for his client's release, Mehajer's barrister, Dymphna Hawkins, on Tuesday said she'd been instructed to object to the witness's statement because they weren't present in court to be cross-examined.

Ms Hawkins told Ms Viney that sections of the statement had little relevance.

"(Parts) have little or no weight whatsoever and are inflammatory and have little or no relevance," the lawyer said.

The controversial former Auburn deputy mayor was released from Cooma Correctional Centre on May 21 after serving 11 months in jail for electoral fraud.
