Sam Burgess has accepted a one-match NRL ban for tripping and will miss England's opening match of the Four Nations.

South Sydney star Burgess took the early guilty plea on a grade-one tripping charge involving Canterbury prop Aiden Tolman during the Bulldogs' Friday night loss to the Rabbitohs.

Due to a poor recent record, loading tips Burgess' penalty beyond the one-match threshold.

England open their Four Nations campaign on October 29 against New Zealand in Huddersfield.
