Australia's most acclaimed female soccer star, Sam Kerr, and her fiancée, Kristie Mewis, a professional soccer player from the United States, have confirmed the birth of their first child.

"Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr," the pair said in a joint Instagram post on Thursday.

Kerr and Mewis had previously announced the pregnancy last November on social media with a picture showing off Mewis' baby bump.
They received a flood of support from fellow teammates and fans at the time, but some users also used it as an opportunity to level homophobic abuse at the couple.

In response, Chelsea Pride, an LGBTIQ+ supporter group affiliated with the men's English Premier League and Women's Super League (WSL) club for which Kerr plays, condemned the abuse as "heartbreaking and infuriating" adding that "homophobia has no place in football".

Kerr welcomes Jagger into the world after an eventful few years, which include a high-profile London trial for a charge of racially aggravated abuse — of which she was acquitted — and an injury which saw her miss much of the Matildas' impressive 2023 World Cup campaign.

Mewis — who is an acclaimed athlete in her own right and plays for West Ham United as well as the US national team — met Kerr in 2020. They have been a couple since 2021 and became engaged in September 2023.
