A vote on same-sex civil unions in Queensland will go down to the wire, Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser says.
Mr Fraser's bill to allow the unions will be debated and voted on in parliament on Wednesday night.
Labor MPs will be allowed a conscience vote, but Liberal National Party leader Campbell Newman has told his 31 MPs to vote against it.
Mr Fraser said it wasn't too late for Mr Newman to give his party's MPs the same opportunity.
"If the LNP MPs individually vote no because that's what their conscience tells them, then so be it," he said in a statement.

"But they shouldn't have their own values and beliefs trampled on by the unelected backroom bullies of the LNP."
He said the LNP directive meant the vote would be close.
"I'm expecting this vote to go down to the wire. We will not know the outcome until every vote is counted," he said.
