Samsung is expected to announce a worldwide recall of its Galaxy Note 7 model batteries following complaints they explode while being charged, Yonhap news agency quoted an anonymous official from the company.

The South Korean tech giant is expected to announce results from an investigation into the faulty product.

In a statement, Samsung said: “We are conducting a thorough inspection with our partners. We will share the findings as soon as possible."

“Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers."

The multinational company has delayed shipments of the phone following reports that its latest smartphone was faulty, according to the Associated Press.

The smart phone was released in Australia on August 19 just ahead of its competitor, Apple, which is due to launch its new iPhone models in September.
