Gurinder Sandhu says he has no intention of becoming the next Colin Miller - and not just because he wouldn't look good with blue hair.
The 194cm seamer provided one of the most memorable moments of the third day of NSW's Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania at Bankstown Oval on Monday when he resorted to spin bowling - and it paid immediate dividends.
Positives were few and far between for the Blues on a day dominated by a century from Tasmanian opener Ben Dunk (127 not out) which has the Tigers well-poised with a 352-run lead.
However, Sandhu provided a highlight reel moment when he switched from his usual medium pacers to spin.
And just two balls later he trapped Tigers keeper Tim Triffitt lbw for a duck.
Sandhu is considered one of the most promising young cricketers in the country - he made his Australian one-day debut earlier this year, has toured with Australia A and was the Blues' player of the year in his maiden season in 2012-13.
Miller, who is perhaps best remembered for his nickname Funky and turning out for a Test match against the West Indies with his hair dyed blue, started out as a medium pacer before developing into an offspinner and had the ability to switch between the two.
For the time being Sandhu says he will not be following the same career trajectory as Miller but he will keep it up his sleeve for whenever it's needed.
"It's just a bit of fun really," Sandhu said.
"I used to bowl it back in the day in backyard cricket. If you get bored off the long run, have to get my brother out so I'd just bowl a few offies with a tennis ball.
"We had a bit of carpet we used to play on so the tennis ball used to spin a fair bit."
