Sydney Thunder quick Gurinder Singh Sandhu, is set to make history as he becomes the first Australian of Indian origin to represent Australia at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Brisbane.
Sandhu, 19, born in Faridkot in Punjab, India was brought up in Sydney by his father and his passion for cricket started at five years of age playing, like most kids do, in the backyard with his father.
Now, set to play at the international cricket tournament, experts believe the talented fast bowler could be one of the stars of the Youth World Cup.
In an interview with SBS News Radio, cricket Australia's General Manager Peter Young says the game has generally been perceived as an “Anglo-Saxon” sport in Australia. However, he is hopeful and looks forward to seeing more multicultural Australians make their way up into the Australian cricket team.
