Sarfraz Ahmed named new Pakistan T20 capt

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed has been named to replace Shahid Afridi as Pakistan's Twenty20 captain.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed as national Twenty20 captain to replace Shahid Afridi.

Afridi quit as captain after Pakistan lost three of their four group matches at the World T20 tournament in India, but said he wanted to continue playing the shortest format of international cricket.

The PCB said chairman Shaharyar Khan spoke to Ahmed on Tuesday and conveyed to him that he was "our natural choice for this position".

Ahmed led the Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan's first professional domestic T20 league before losing to the Misbah-ul-Haq-led Islamabad United in the final.

Ahmed played in all four of Pakistan's World T20 matches, but batted down the order throughout the tournament despite having a good strike rate of 120.24.
