SA's blackout and power woes

What brought South Australia to develop its new energy plan.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S POWER WOES:

* SEPT 28, 2016

Severe thunderstorms bring down four major transmission lines and 21 towers in SA's north leading to a statewide blackout when the state is separated from the national network.

* DEC 27, 2016

Thunderstorms across the Adelaide Hills bring down power lines and cause widespread blackouts with 155,000 properties losing power.

* JAN 19, 2017

Another series of storms cause power outages across Adelaide. This time 58,000 homes are blacked out.

* FEB 8, 2017

Heatwave conditions prompt the Australian Energy Market Operator to order load shedding in SA to reduce record demand on the electricity network. A software problem with SA Power Networks results in 90,000 properties being blacked out for about 30 minutes, three times the number ordered by AEMO.

* MARCH 3, 2017

An explosion and fire at Adelaide Torrens Island Power Station raise fears of more blackouts. Power cuts are narrowly avoided by using generating capacity in Victoria.
