A woman in Saudi Arabia has reportedly been arrested after she ran up to a male singer and hugged him during a performance.
Videos posted on Twitter show a woman running up to singer Majid al-Mohandis and hugging him before she was being removed from the area by security.
Several other women attempting to reach Mr al-Mohandis are subsequently blocked by security.
Saudi newspaper Okaz and the Efe news agency are reporting a public prosecutor will now consider harassment charges against the first woman.
Saudi law stipulates women cannot mix in public with men who are unrelated to them.
Mr al-Mohandis continued to perform after he was hugged. He is yet to comment on the incident, which happened at a festival in the city of Taif.
Some Saudis were quick to condemn the woman.
“What this girl did … must be held accountable for it to be an example to others,” tweeted female author Hanan Al-Qood.
“This is shameful, it is very sad to watch this. We trust that the competent authorities will take the necessary action behind what happened,” tweeted a journalist from the Al-Jazirah news website.
Mr al-Mohandis, who has been colloquially referred to as “the engineer of the Arabic song” and “voice of diamond”, is an Iraqi musician who also holds Saudi citizenship.
Saudi Arabia has strict laws regarding women’s rights and is seen as having one of the worst gender equality records - which also includes records for transgender and non-binary identifying citizens - in the world.
While the Saudi kingdom overturned the world's only ban on female motorists last month, strict dress restrictions remain.
The woman seen hugging Mr al-Mohandis appears to be wearing a niqab - a garmet of clothing that covers the whole body, except the eyes.
