Sayers not expecting to live his dream

Chadd Sayers isn't expecting his dream of winning an Australian Test cap to be realised in the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.

Chadd Sayers knows his dream is likely to remain just that - a dream.

The South Australian swing bowler desperately wants to make his Test debut against England in Adelaide from Saturday.

But he expects to be mixing drinks, rather than mixing it with the Englishmen on the field.

"I assume if the big three quicks are fit then they will probably get the nod," Sayers told reporters on Thursday.

Australia's fast bowling trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins seem certain selections for the second Test.

Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins bowled during Australia's session on Thursday night, when heavy rain cut short the squad's main hit-out before the second Test.

"As long as they get through main day (Thursday), they're all good," coach Darren Lehmann said earlier this week.

But Sayers, who was 12th man in the Ashes opener, can still dream.

"All I can do is train the house down and perform when I go out to Shield cricket," he said.

"I think I have done that over the past two or three years so I guess it will hold me in good stead if I do get the chance.

"It's always good to be involved in the Australian cricket team.

"But I guess you want to play and I want to earn that baggy green. It's a lifelong dream and to do it in Adelaide would be even more special."
